Andre Patterson

Born in London, England to Guyanese parents, André spent his early years listening to the BBC. His early influences were Soul and R&B, British rock, and Calypso music. It was in London, that André learned to play piano which began his lifelong love of music. In 1974, he and his family moved to Toronto, Ontario where André refined his musical skills through a variety of instruments.
His love of music sent him to St. Francis Xavier University where he earned a B.A. of music with a jazz composition/arranging major. In 1994, André moved to Calgary, AB. He has since played with and led a variety of bands, including the Kaos Big Band, and Blue Rhino.
In response to an ad in the paper in 2006, André joined what was then Latin Beat and discovered a new passion for the sounds of Latin America and a renewed love of Soca music. He continues to play today with Banda Brava and a variety of bands in the Calgary area.
