How is it that a man of few words can be the loudest guy in the room? Well Jorge Escobar, drummer for Banda Brava knows how to beat the drums like nobody else and has given the band an extra special flavour for years.
Jorge Alberto Escobar was born in El Salvador and moved to Mexico at the age of nine. His first taste of music was at the age of fifteen when he started guitar lessons. His family moved to Canada in 1986 when he was sixteen years old. He had a passion for the drums and his dream was to play in a rock and reggae band.
In 1988 a Salvadorian family came to canada from the United States with a plan to start a Latin band...they needed a drummer and gave Jorge the opportunity to learn Latin rhythms and play with them. The name of the band was Sabor Tropical and Jorge played with them for fifteen years. They toured Alberta, Saskatchewan, and British columbia, and recored a cd "Bailalo Con Sabor".
In 2002, Jorge joined the band Latin Beat, it is here that he contiued to develop his unique drumming style. He incorporates the timbales and small percussion with a regular drum kit.
In 2008 Latin Beat reformed under the new name Banda Brava and Jorge has been playing with them ever since. Jorge is an open minded musician who loves to play many styles...rock, reggae, country, salsa, merengue, cumbia, reggaeton, bachata and more.
